At Clinic 66 (C66), we understand that pain and anxiety can be a real concern when
undergoing gynaecological procedures. Everyone’s experience is different, and there is no single “right” approach to pain relief.

That’s why we offer a range of options, and why the team will always talk with you about
what’s most appropriate for you, your procedure, and your medical history.
Below is an overview of some of the pain-relief options you may be offered at Clinic 66.
Diclofenac Suppository (rectal pellet)
Some gynaecological procedures can cause cramping or discomfort afterwards. One option for pain relief is diclofenac, an anti-inflammatory medication that can be given as a
suppository (placed in the rectum at the time of the procedure).
This option can be helpful if you are having a surgical abortion or D&C, feel very anxious, are unable to swallow tablets, or prefer to avoid stronger pain medicines such as opioids. Not every patient needs this medication. At Clinic 66, each person is assessed individually.
Penthrox® (The Green Whistle)
Penthrox is an inhaled pain-relief medication that you breathe in through a (green)
handheld device. It works quickly and allows you to control how much you use. It may be
offered for short procedures where additional pain relief or anxiety reduction may help.
Local Anaesthetic
Local anaesthetic may be applied as a gel, spray, or injection to numb a specific area. It is often the most effective option for procedures involving the cervix, such as IUD insertion or removal.
